Is there Global Warming?

Is global warming fact or fiction?  Has this really resulted in climate changes that will affect our lives in the future? Or is it something else?  Many individuals that I talk with think it is just a bunch of bunk.  Their argument runs something like this “We have had climate changes both up and down over the millions of years that the earth has been in existence. The climate is cyclical, and we will continue to have climate changes up and down until the end of time!”

Global Warming vs Climate Change

Global warming refers to the recent and ongoing rise in global average temperature near Earth’s surface. It is caused mostly by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warming is causing climate patterns to change. However, global warming itself represents only one aspect of climate change.

Climate change refers to any meaningful change in the measures of climate lasting for an extended period. In other words, climate change includes major changes in temperature, precipitation, or wind patterns, among other effects, which occur over several decades or longer.

Below are four articles based on scientific evidence that is well worth reading. Check the article out and make up your own mind.

Global warming is the current increase in temperature of the Earth’s surface (both land and water) as well as it’s atmosphere. Average temperatures around the world have risen by 0.75°C (1.4°F) over the last 100 years about two thirds of this increase has occurred since 1975. In the past, when the Earth experienced increases in temperature it was the result of natural causes but today it is being caused by the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere produced by human activities. – via Climate change: How do we know?
As we gear into the holidays in full force, we often think of family gatherings and dinners and gifts. So, it is not surprising that the North Pole is a big news item around this time of the year. Or is it? In fact, the image of Santa coming from the North Pole on his sleigh pulled by reindeer is being replaced by one of the Arctic with very little sea ice, and temperatures predicted to be above average by as much as 50°F by Christmas eve 2016. – via Breaking News From the Arctic: It Is not Santa, It Is Global Warming
Multiple studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals show that 97 percent or more of actively publishing climate scientists agree: Climate-warming trends over the past century are extremely likely due to human activities. In addition, most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position. – via  Scientific consensus: Earth’s climate is warming
New research of ocean temperatures shows they have warmed consistently over the past 50 years, further disproving the ‘pause’ climate deniers use as argument. – via Already Debunked Global Warming ‘Hiatus’ Gets Another Dunking

Conclusion

Global climate change has become a very controversial topic and has been politicized by both politic parties. I am not going to get into this here, that is for you to decide. However, I tried to provide several resources to get you thinking about the issue of global climate change and start your own research.
